The W.E.B. Dubois Academy Saturday School Program
The program is designed to serve between 40 and 50 youth (from the Greater Springfield area) between the 2nd and 12th grades. While the program targets African-American youth, other youth are also represented, and the program is open to all for enrollment. The academic support elements of the program are designed to focus on the following areas: Math, English, Science, and African-American History. The program is also designed to expose the young men to those who can offer mentoring and leadership development support. One example includes a "Rights of Passage" component to the program. The program also provides a morning snack, lunch, and various recreational activities for the youth ( e.g., Swimming, Computer Room, Basketball, Table games, etc).
