Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha who pass away are automatically placed into Omega Chapter a permannet chapter for all Brothers after death. Members of Alpha Phi Alpha are members in life and death.

Dr. William (Bill) Fox Hall

                                       

William Fox Hall was a long time resident of Springfield and had a Dentist Practice here in Springfield. He graduated Howard University where he pledged Beta chapter. He was commonly referred to as Dr. hall by most city residents. He kept his home and practice in the same building and in the heart of the black community. During his funeral there many testimonial about how he charged so little for his services and most of that was on his books. He truly gave back to the community. He was know to share jokes with the brothers and loved to swap humor. He was extremely active in the city of Springfield on a project called Model Cities. A project geared to improve the quality of life in the black community.

Lee Revels

Lee B. Revels, was a member of our local chapter and was in the Springfield public school system in the 1960'S. He was the great grand nephew of the first black US Senator from Mississippi. He Graduated from West Virginia State. He came to Western Mass as an instructor with Monson Sate Hospital. Through the Alpha Network and Brother Frank Buntin he was hired into the Springfield school system.
In spite of a speech impediment and ambulatory problems, he was very successful in his vocation and extremely active in the Fraternity. His was consumed with the promotion of the scholarship program. He always wanted to push the chapter into new ways of advancing the program. His support of this chapter prompted the brothers to name our awards program in his name. Lived on Bay an Buckingham street Had one Sister in Springfield.

Marvin P. Lyon

 Marvin, served as the chapters Vice President and was our incumbent President upon his death. He had twice be awarded the Brother of the year award, awarded at our annual Founders Weekend luncheon. He was posthumously awarded a third Brother of the year award this past December 12, 2004. His departure left a huge void in our chapter because of this Brothers energy and love of Alpha. The Brothers of Theta Iota Lambda will forever miss our beloved brother.

Marvin P. Lyon, Jr. 1968 - 2004 SPRINGFIELD -

Marvin Paul Lyon, Jr., 36, of 70 Wilton Street, Springfield, Massachusetts 01109, son of Marvin P. Lyon, Sr., and Cynthia M. Lyon was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on April 4, 1968 and departed this life on October 4, 2004 at Baystate Medical Center. Marvin was a graduate of Longmeadow High School, the University of Pennsylvania and Western New England College Law School. Marvin was an active member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and was president of the Theta Iota Lambda graduate chapter in Springfield, Massachusetts, as well as a member of the board of the Connecticut Sexual Assault Crisis Services, as well as a dedicated leader of the Alpha Esquires (a youth mentoring organization). To cherish his memory, Marvin leaves behind his wife, Maria; his children, Alexandra and Devon; his parents, Marvin and Cynthia; his grandfather, John Bigby; his sister and brother-in-law, Tanisha and Donald Brown; his nephew and niece, Maxwell and Zora and his parents-in-law, Epifanio and Lydia. He also leaves behind a host of other treasured aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as numerous loving friends. Marvin will be remembered with a wake on Thursday, October 7, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The Potter's House, 761 Sumner Ave., Springfield, MA 01118, and with a service of celebration on Friday, October 8, 2004 at Third Baptist Church, 149 Walnut Street in Springfield, Massachusetts, 01105 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may made be made to the Lee B. Revels Scholarship, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., P.O. Box 662, Highlands Station, Springfield, MA 01109-1139.

Harold Taylor

 

Harold Taylor came to Springfield with his acceptance of a position with Digital. Digital was large computer company that flourished in the 1970-1980 time period. Harold was one of many black professionals who came western Massachusetts as employees of Digital. Harold left the area and the chapter is still looking for more details about his life after Theta Iota Lambda.

 Dewey McGowan Dewey McGowan, worked in education at Westfield State college.  Approx 199X 
 James Henderson James Henderson commonly called Jimmy was a very successful funeral director in the city of Springfield. He was the single black funeral director for many years. Jimmy was extremely active in the community and the fraternity. He was well know to open his home to the brothers and provide down home cooking. His favorite treat for the brothers was coon. The Henderson funeral hone is still a very successful going concern, managed by his daughter. Jimmy definitely left his mark as a leader in the community.

 Thomas Jones Tom Jones was in education and retired from the city of Springfield as a high school teacher. He taught Electricity at one of the areas largest trade school. Tom had loved his church and his fraternity. He was a long time member of Third Baptist church and taught Sunday School. He was a true dependable brother who could be counted on to support and deliver on any project he accepted. Tom came to Springfield from Massachusetts from Virginia. He was a graduate of Virginia Union, until the time of his death he faithfully made the annual trek back to Virginia Union for reunion and other events. December 14, 2000 - Omega Ceremony 
Ernie Jones

Ernie Jones worked as a college Minority Students advisor in the late 1960's and early 1970 at western New England College. . Ernie left Theta Iota Lambda chapter (Springfield) for the a job at Albany State in Albany Georgia.
